Revenant Esports appoint former South Built Esports player Pro as coach

Sep 09, 2023

INDIA – Revenant Esports have brought on former South Built Esports player Chris "Pro" Martir as the team's new coach, less than two weeks into their VCL South Asia Split 2 campaign. This acquisition fills the void left in the team's roster after the departure of their previous head coach, Yoon "Malix" Kyung-ho, who retired earlier this year.

Before venturing into VALORANT, Pro was a member of TNC Pro Team and Bren Esports in Valve's first-person shooter game before transitioning together with the latter's roster under the South Built Esports (SBE) banner.

Prior to competing in VALORANT, Pro was part of the TNC Pro Team and Bren Esports rosters in Valve's first-person shooter before transitioning altogether to VALORANT with the latter's roster under the South Built Esports banner. The veteran spent 19 months with SBE, notably achieving victories in the 2022 VCT Philippines Stage 1 Challengers and both the 2021 and 2022 editions of the Mineski VxV tournaments. However, the organization released its roster at the end of last year.

"With an abundance of experience, he is here to become the brains of our wolfpack. Join us as we welcome Pro as the Head Coach of our Valorant team." the announcement reads.

Pro also represented his country in the 2022 VCT APAC Stage 1 Challengers, securing a joint 7-8th place finish. Now, his addition sees him link up with two fellow Filipinos in Enrico "Ching" Perez and Joshua "JoshS" Santos.

Commenting on his new role in what will be his first, Pro said, "Revenant has two Filipino players and there are also some other imports from the country in the South Asian VALORANT scene as well. Having competed with and against these players since 2021, I look forward to assisting the Revenant roster to strengthen their core synergy, identify mistakes, and improve their overall gameplay."

Commenting on the appointment of the new coach, Rohit Jagasia, Founder and CEO of Revenant Esports said, "Unfortunately, we weren't able to compete in Split 1 of the VALORANT Challengers South Asia, so our present team hasn't competed together on the big stage. Building their synergy as soon as possible has been an area of focus for us and Pro's addition will help us realize that goal."

Revenant Esports have so far played one match in VCL South Asia Split 2 against MLT Esports, winning the game with a scoreline of 2-1. The team will next take on reigning champions Orangutan on May 12 at 9:30 PM SGT // 7 PM IST.
